KEEPING PATERSON CHILDREN OUT OF HARM’S WAY

Kenneth ‘KD’ McDaniel II, City Councilman At-Large
City Council Vice President

Citizens and School Officials informed the Municipal Government in Paterson, NJ that City store are selling pellet guns that resemble real firearms. In an effort to prevent potentially dangerous, life threatening scenarios on our streets and in our schools, I have taken a number of proactive steps.

I’ve visited stores and confirmed that these items are in fact being sold. I am in communication with Paterson’s Corporation Council, researching State Law governing the sale of pellet guns. I am drafting legislation to regulate the sale of pellet guns in Paterson, NJ.

I’m asking storeowners the following questions.

1.)  What, if any, age requirement have the owners placed on purchasers of pellet guns?
2.)  Do the storeowners understand the dangers associated with the sale and use of pellet guns?
3.)  As good neighbors and responsible business proprietors are the storeowners willing to cease and desist sales of pellet guns?

I am actively requesting that proprietors refrain from selling pellet guns, as these items have the potential to cause harm to our children and community at-large.

I encourage parents to ensure that your children don't own or handle pellet guns outside of very controlled environments. It is important to note that pellet guns should never be taken to school.
